Ignite Unley

This summer, we have three fun-packed free outdoor cinema events planned across Unley.

Bring a picnic rug and settle in for a night of fantastic entertainment with live music, activities for the kids, delicious food, popcorn, coffee and more! 

Save the date for these Ignite Unley events! Food, refreshments and entertainment from 6pm, movies commence at sunset.

    Go wild at Ignite Unley, our free outdoor cinema event. Food, refreshments and animal-themed entertainment from 6pm, Zootopia (PG) will screen at sunset. 

    Bring a picnic rug and settle in for a night of fantastic entertainment with live performances, animal petting zoo, pony rides, face painting, jumping castle, delicious food, popcorn, coffee and more!

    Kids encouraged to dress up as their favourite animal. The children's activities will all be offered free of charge. 

    Page Park is located at the corner of Cross Road and East Avenue, Clarence Park.

    Join us for a night of fantastic entertainment in Gilbert Street, Goodwood. The road will be closed adjacent to the Capri Theatre to create a street party atmosphere with mouth-watering dinner and dessert options, live music, activities for the kids, popcorn, choc tops and more!

    Limited cafe style seating will be provided, beanbags are welcome.

    No BYO is permitted, alcohol will be available for purchase. Please arrive early to secure a spot!

The City of Unley will hold its popular street party, the Unley Gourmet Gala, on
Monday 16 January 2017

The Gala celebrates the Hostworks Stage 1 Start of the 2017 Santos Tour Down Under, which will head off from Unley the next day, 10.30am Tuesday 17 January.

Celebrating its seventeenth year in 2017, the Unley Gourmet Gala is the longest running event held in conjunction with the Santos Tour Down Under, where retailers and restaurants showcase their finest gourmet produce, wine and fashion in a lively street party.


Setting the tone for an exhilarating week of competition between the world’s most elite cyclists, event goers can expect their favourite event attractions along with some new and exciting twists.

Santos Tour Down Under Stage 1 Start

The City of Unley is delighted to be hosting the Hostworks Stage 1 Start of the 2017 Santos Tour Down Under (TDU).

The start will be held on Adelaide’s premier retail strip, King William Road near Bloomsbury Avenue, travelling in the opposite direction to previous years. Riders will head north into the heart of the city, finishing in Lyndoch in the Barossa Valley.

One of Adelaide’s most prestigious annual events, the Unley Gourmet Gala will be held on the eve of the Stage Start.

Every Generation Festival

Join us for a series of performances throughout the Every Generation Festival where you won’t be able to resist the temptation to sing, dance and act anything BUT your age - explore stories, songs, live music, dance and theatre!

All performances are FREE and include a light morning or afternoon tea.

  • Me ‘n Me Mates
    Come and sing along with SA based trio featuring guitar, banjo, harmonica, percussion as they perform songs, stories and bush ballads to celebrate Australia’s distinctive language and humour in the tradition of Henry Lawson, Banjo Paterson and Slim Dusty.

Christmas Card Competition

Please note this competition has closed. Winners will be announced soon.

Primary students from schools within the Unley council area are invited to enter our 2016 Christmas Card Competition.

Draw or paint a scene that captures what you enjoy about Christmas in Unley. Prizes are on offer within four different age categories. The winning designs will be featured on Council’s 2016 Christmas Cards, with the winning entrants receiving copies of the printed cards to send to family and friends.

  • How to Enter
    All entries must be submitted on the Official Entry Form which can be downloaded below.
       
    The competition opens 9am, 12 September 2016 and closes 5pm, 8 November 2016. All winners will be notified by phone or via their school.

  • Prizes

    A judging panel will award the following prizes:

    • Each category will be awarded first, second and third prizes:
      • First Prize: $100 Gift Voucher from an Unley business
      • Second Prize: $75 Gift Voucher from an Unley business
      • Third Prize: $50 Gift Voucher from an Unley business
    • First Prize Winners in each category will receive 20 printed cards featuring their design
    • The overall winner, selected from the first place winners, will also receive a Gift Voucher from an Unley business to the value of $100.


    The winning entry from each age group will be printed onto Christmas Cards with the student’s name, year and school on the inside of the card.

  • Full Terms & Conditions

    The Promoter is the City of Unley, 181 Unley Road, Unley SA 5061.

    Eligibility:

    • The City of Unley Christmas Card Competition is open to children from Reception to Year 7 from all schools in the City of Unley Council area.
    • Only one entry per student. Multiple entries will be disqualified.
    • Employees of the Promoter and their immediate families, and agencies associated with the promotion are ineligible to enter.
    • Entries received after the closure date/time will not be eligible.
     

    How to enter:

    • Students are invited to draw or paint a scene that captures what they enjoy about Christmas in Unley.
    • Photographic and digital artwork will not be accepted.
    • All entries must be submitted on the official Entry Form, which can be downloaded from the City of Unley website or available from the Unley Civic Centre, Unley Libraries and Community Centres.
    • Artwork must be completed within the space allocated on the official Entry Form.
    • All sections of the official Entry Form must be completed, including a signature by the child’s parent or guardian.
    • Entries can be hand delivered to the Unley Civic Centre, 181 Unley Road, Unley during business hours, or posted to “The City of Unley Christmas Card Competition, PO Box 1, Unley SA 5061”.
    • The Promoter does not take responsibility for entries lost during delivery.
     

    Terms and Conditions:

    • By entering this competition, students declare that the entry is their own work.
    • By entering this competition, students give permissions for the City of Unley to:
    • reproduce and distribute their entry as a Christmas Card by the Mayor, Elected Members and City of Unley staff and
    • publish their artwork on Council’s social media sites, website and any other council communications method as deemed appropriate by the Promoter.
     

    Category Details:

    • Entries will be assigned to four categories based on the student’s year level at the time of entry:
      • Category 1 –  Reception and Year 1
      • Category 2 – Year 2 and 3
      • Category 3 –  Year 4 and 5
      • Category 4 – Year 6 and 7
     

    Judging:

    • A panel, whose members will be selected by the Promoter, will judge entries.
    • The Judging Panel will select First, Second and Third Place winners from each category.
    • From these award winners, the Judging Panel will select an overall winner who will receive an additional prize.
    • Judges decision is final and no further correspondence will be entered into.

     
    Prize Details:

    • All prizes are non-transferrable, and cannot be exchanged for cash.
    • The Promoter shall not be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever which is suffered (including but not limited to indirect or consequential loss) or for any personal injury suffered or sustained in connection with any prize/s except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law.
     

    Competition Timeline:

    • Competition opens 9am, 12 September 2016 and closes 5pm, 8 November2016.
    • Entries received after the closure date/time will not be eligible.
    • All winners will be notified by phone or via their school.
    • All winners will be invited to an awards ceremony.
    • Printed cards will be available for collection from early December. 
     

    Publicity:

    • Winners agree to upon request, participate in any promotional activities required by Promoter, including, but not limited to, publicity, photography and appearances.
