The Family History collection is accessible at the following times:
> Tuesday: 10am to 6pm
> Thursday: 10am to 6pm
The Unley Libraries Family History collection provides access to a range of resources which you can utilise in performing your family history research. These resources include birth, death, and marriage certificates for the Adelaide district on microfiche and much more.
Access to the Family History collection is made possible by a dedicated team of volunteers. The Family History volunteers facilitate access to the collection and can often offer helpful pointers to assist you in your own research. They are not researchers and are consequently not able to perform your research for you.
Births, Deaths and Marriages - Adelaide District Register
Copies of birth, death and marriage certificates for the Adelaide district are available on microfiche in the following date ranges:
> Births: 1856 to 1922 (Index with useful information to 1928)
> Deaths: 1864 to 1967 (Index to 1972)
> Marriages: 1868 to 1937
Records are available for the Adelaide District only. Due to their age some certificates may have poor legibility.
Please note that photocopies or prints of the certificates cannot be made.
Resources on CD-ROM
Victorian birth, death, and marriage indexes from 1836 - 1920 are available on CD-ROM, along with South Australian pre-civil registration births, deaths and marriages and a range of other electronic resources. These resources are available for use during Family History opening hours only.
Reference Collection
A wide range of Family and Local History reference books are available in the Unley Civic Library in the Reference Collection. These items are available during normal library opening hours.
Further book resources on researching your family history are also available for loan in the library's general collection.
Access for overseas, interstate and country SA
If you live interstate or in country South Australia and are unable to visit the Unley Libraries Family History collection, our volunteers may be able to provide assistance for birth, death, and marriage certificate searches. To request this service contact the Family History volunteers during opening hours on 8372 5426. If they can assist with your request you will be sent a Family History Request form in the post, which you must fill in and return with a stamped self-addressed envelope enclosed (PDF copy of the form also included below). Estimated turnaround time for search requests is 28 days (this is dependent on available resources and the number of requests received). No more than three requests per person can be made at any one time.

The South Australian Genealogy and Heraldry Society have a central library, run by volunteers, that holds South Australian, Australian, and international genealogy and heraldry information.

Home Library Service
The Unley Libraries provide a free monthly library service to residents within The City of Unley who are housebound or unable to access the Library due to health problems. The Service is also available to aged care and disability residential organisations.
This service relies on the support of dedicated volunteers who select and deliver library resources.

Business Resource Collection
The Unley Libraries provide a collection of resources for local businesses and people starting a business. The business collection is located at Unley Civic Library, 181 Unley Road, Unley.

Internet Access and Training
The Unley Libraries provide free access to the Internet at the Unley Civic Centre and Goodwood libraries. Book your PC here
The Civic Centre Library and the Goodwood Library also provide free wireless access to the Internet.
Volunteers at the Civic Centre and Goodwood libraries can assist you to learn how to use the internet.

Multicultural Services
The Unley Libraries recognise the diversity of cultures and offers a broad range of materials in all community languages at Goodwood Library.
Specialist collections include :
- Languages other than English including books, CDs, videos, magazines, DVDs
- Adult English Literacy
- Language Kits in languages other than English for self tuition
The My Language Portal website is especially designed for people from a non-English speaking background and contains links to information in many languages.
