Inner Southern Region Profile

Overall, the demographic data reinforces the perception of Mitcham, Unley and Holdfast Bay areas as more affluent, more homogenous, more skills and slightly more highly paid than the Adelaide metropolitan on average. Marion's demographic profile shows a slightly lower socio economic status in general.

However, a closer look highlights pockets of lower socio economic status in all council areas, in particular along the western boundaries of Mitcham and Unley and the eastern boundary of Marion (the South Road corridor) though Marion central and to a lesser extent in the south east to the north of Holdfast Bay.

There is a combination of socio- economic indicators in these lower socio-economic pockets that are likely to to contribute to individual experiences of disadvantage. Community service providers in the region have confirmed that this is indeed the case, as they report increasing tends of people living in poverty, experiencing isolation and generally 'doing it tough'.
