CITY OF UNLEY TO HOST SANTOS TOUR DOWN UNDER STAGE 3 START
Today, Monday 2 July 2012, Minister for Tourism Gail Gago, announced the routes for the Santos Tour Down Under 2013, including the Stage 3 Start, which will be hosted by the City of Unley on Thursday 24 January 2013.
Minister Gago also said next year’s event would introduce several new elements while also celebrating its fifteenth anniversary.
Mayor of Unley Lachlan Clyne said that the City is excited about hosting the Group Stage 3 Start again which this year will see the rider’s race from Unley toStirling, a testing course of 139km.
"The City ofUnleyhas always been a very enthusiastic supporter of this world class event; it is a major opportunity for us to showcase our local businesses and promote Unley as a great place to visit.”
Mayor Clyne continued;
“As the largest cycling race in the southern hemisphere and the first stop on the world cycling calendar, the Santos Tour Down Under will again attract an extremely high calibre of cyclists and it will be a great opportunity to welcome our interstate and overseas visitors to Unley.”
City of Unley CEO Peter Tsokas said; “Each year the City of Unley holds a major community event on the eve of the stage start, last year the Gourmet Gala attracted over 18 000 people and provided a major financial boost of over $500 000 to the city, we expect 2013 to be even bigger and better than previous years.” .
“The Gourmet Gala is sponsored by the City ofUnleyand supported by a wide range of Unley businesses. The event attracts people from all overAdelaide, which makes it an ideal curtain raiser for the Stage 3 start.”
