Keeping You Safe - Monitoring Food Quality
The City of Unley's EHOs (Environmental Health Officers) regularly inspect venues where food is served to ensure hygiene and food safety. These include food outlets, cafes, restaurants, child care centres, schools and aged care facilities. With some 260 food premises, plus significant activities at the Royal Showgrounds and other outdoor venues (e.g. The Unley Way To Go! Fair), the monitoring program is substantial.
The EHOs may also be involved in following up cases of food poisoning and will respond to complaints regarding food hygiene and safety. Advice and training in relation to safe food handling is also available.
The Food Act 2001 came into effect in December 2002 and to find out how this affects food businesses and charitable, sporting and community groups, view the Food Safety Questions section (below).
Any concerns about food production and handling should be directed to the Environmental Health Section on 8372 5111.
