The Council
The Unley Council is made up of Elected Members.
A council is elected every four years by the Unley community to whom the Council is accountable.
The Council operates within the framework of the Local Government (Elections) Act 1999 (SA) and is generally not subject to Ministerial direction by either State or Federal Governments.
In areas such as planning and development however, it may work in partnership with the State Government to whom their decisions may be subject to advice and direction.
As with other democratically elected governments, the Unley Council has powers to raise revenue to provide and maintain infrastructure and services, to regulate activities and to impose penalties if local regulations are breached.
