Dig In, Don't Wait
Find out what South Australians have been dishing up over the last 150 years in the latest exhibition at the Unley Museum. Dig In, Don't Wait is all about what, when and how we eat. A delicious looking display full of stories, objects and hands-on fun. Marvel at the cardboard lunch boxes, discover lunch was once called 'noonings' or brush up on your manners by playing the snakes and ladders etiquette game.
Roast on Sunday, shepherds pie on Monday, chops on Tuesday and if you were really unlucky tripe on Wednesday. Dig In, Don't Wait the latest exhibition at Unley Museum explores what South Australians have been dishing up over the last 150 years in a fun and enticing way. It's all about what, when and how we eat.
Dismissed in the 1800s by a renowned food reformer as "humdrum and monotonous", Australian food has changed radically. Find out how as you bite into the history of breakfast, lunch and dinner and of course afternoon tea. Through images, stories and recipes you can also explore Australia's love affair with meat, the effects of migration on our diet and the decline in our table manners.
The exhibition looks so delicious you might be tempted to nibble on a corner.
"I love the gelato colours, the luscious retro food photographs and the wall of cup cakes. It looks good enough to eat", enthuses Jane Dunn, one of the Museum's volunteer staff.
Dig In, Don't Wait is full of hands-on fun for kids (and big kids!). Put together the giant cow jigsaw to find out where meat cuts come from. Brush up on your manners when you play the snakes and ladders etiquette game or make a model of your favourite dinner and be part of the display.
