We encourage all participants to undertake a fitness assessment with us. We are able to offer assessments to participants every nine months, and they provide you and us with valuable information about your strengths and limitations. Your assessment guides us in the support we offer you, to achieve your goal.
Assessments take approximately one hour and all parts of the assessment are voluntary.
We supervise university students from health sciences disciplines to assist us in conducting the fitness assessments.

Grip Strength Test
The grip strength test is used to evaluate the participant’s maximal grip force produced in a single muscular contraction. Grip strength is commonly used as an indicator of a person’s overall strength capacity.
Unipedal Stance Test (Balance)
Maintaining or improving balance ability is vital to prolonging the healthy lifespan of older adults. The unipedal stance test requires the participant to stand on one leg for up to 45 seconds with eyes opened and with eyes closed. Clinicians use the unipedal stance test to identify whether a patient is vulnerable to falls.
Timed Up and Go Test
The Timed Up and Go is a test that measures the time it takes for a participant to rise from a chair and walk 3 metres away and then return to the chair and sit down again. It is a screening tool used to assist clinicians in identifying people most at risk of falling and provides an overall indication of physical function.
6-Minute Walk Test
The 6-minute walk is a self-paced test designed to measure the distance a participant can walk in 6 minutes. It is used to measure submaximal physical capacity and is a good indicator of cardiovascular fitness.
