Embrace Kids premiere screening in Unley

Founder of 'The Body Image Movement' and recently recognised for her work by being named Australian of the Year, writer-director Taryn Brumfitt takes young audiences on a journey to 'embrace themselves' in this documentary, which is made for kids. She involved a wide selection of children to hear about some of the issues they are facing today, and how pressures from media, social media, and bullying by peers are shaping and influencing their lives.

These are global problems, and Taryn includes opinions of sports personalities, actors, comedians and influencers to comment on themes of body shaming, judgements based on physical appearance, race and ethnicity, and feelings of helplessness and unhappiness in our young people.

Through the interviews, which are positive, powerful and even laugh-out-loud funny at times, young viewers begin to understand the effects the media have in driving these issues, and start to recognise stereotyping, unhealthy habits, and discover that they have the power to make choices.

This is a moving film that all children and their families should see. It teaches that everyone has the option to choose love and gratitude, to love themselves and their bodies, and that they have a voice and the ability to influence their environment and can learn to simply accept, love and be themselves.

'Embrace Kids' is aimed at the 8 to 14 year age group, but audiences of any age will appreciate and learn something from it. Young children and older family members are welcome to attend with their teenage siblings.

Doors open at 5.30pm and the film starts at 6.30pm.

There will be music, craft stations for all ages, free movie snacks, and other giveaway resources for young people.
