Sunday 22 January 2023
Activities from 10am
Race Start 11.30am, King William Road, Hyde Park (near Walter Street)

The Santos Tour Down Under, Australia’s greatest cycling race, returns to the City of Unley for its final stage, the Schwalbe Men’s Stage 5 Race Start on Sunday, 22 January 2023.

Riders from across the globe will gather on King William Road, Hyde Park, for the race start. The competitors then head to the Adelaide Hills to a challenging finish at Mount Lofty.

The event atmosphere will build from around 10am with roving characters dressed in a cycling theme interacting with the crowd and a balloon artist creating fun sculptures before the arrival of the Tour Parade. We’re pleased to feature local singer Katelyn Crawford who will sing the National Anthem as part of the official pre-race activities. Mayor Michael Hewitson AM will fire the starter's gun at 11.30am to officially start the race.

After a two-year hiatus, we look forward to welcoming the prestigious race back to Unley for the twentieth time in the event’s history.

King William Road - where all the action is happening!

King William Road in Hyde Park attracts visitors and community for boutique shopping and hospitality experiences. It is the perfect setting for the internationally recognised Santos Tour Down Under. When the City of Unley last hosted the Santos Tour Down Under in 2020, an upgraded and refurbished King William Road was unveiled. The KWR precinct is now one of Adelaide’s premier destinations on the city fringe, connected to Adelaide and Glenelg by tram and bus services.

Getting to King William Road in Hyde Park

As there is expected to be a large number of spectators, catching public transport is recommended. Due to the road closure for the race, the normal bus route has been diverted. However, the City-to-Glenelg tram stop nearest Greenhill Road is only a short walk to the main retail precinct and event location. Car parking will be available in side streets near King William Road, but spaces may be limited.

Adelaide Metro is recommended for public transport information.
