Book nooks

Clarence Park book nook

Our Book Nooks are little libraries built to create a free book exchange in your neighbourhood. We have four locations within the City of Unley:

  • Heywood Park near Addiscombe Place
  • Clarence Park Community Centre
  • Fern Ave Reserve along Windsor Street
  • Leicester Street Playground

Hello I'm a Book Nook,

Open up my door.

I'm holding books for you to look,

and take one you adore.

But listen now, dear reader,

The idea is to share.

Feed me with some books you've read,

so my shelf is never bare.

- Amelia Birvé (Unley Libraries)

In 2017 Unley Libraries worked with a number of groups and individuals, including City of Unley Council departments, Highgate Community Shed, Barrow & Bench Mitre10 Unley, and with local children’s book illustrator Donna Gynell, to create our version of ‘little free libraries’.

The concept of our Book Nooks is similar to those around the world. Our beautiful weatherproof boxes act as a free book exchange - where you can take a book that interests you and donate one in return.

Our aim is that the Book Nooks become an extension of the work we do at our libraries, enticing people to enjoy and share a love of reading and learning.

We hope you enjoy using our Book Nooks while out and about in the lovely parks and walking trails within the City of Unley.
