SALA in your Libraries
7 Aug 2020
The Libraries are hosting three amazing artists this SALA festival.
Maggie Cecchin started painting after a career as a health professional and academic. When Maggie first picked up a paint brush, it was not without fear and a trembling hand. After hours exploring the relationship of brush, paint, surface and colour she discovered the joy of painting and determined to follow this passion … this became a new life for her. Maggie’s work can be seen at Unley and Goodwood Libraries.
Susi Messenger is a retired teacher/librarian who has been creating yarn and textile pieces since the age of seven. Susi’s tea cosies are a recent addition to her repertoire, wanting to take the tea pot cosy off craft trading tables and into a realm of whimsy and message. Her inspiration is taken from the form of the tea pot, an op shop find of vintage yarn, or creating something that hasn’t been done before. Susi’s exhibition - ‘Tea For You Today’ is at Goodwood Library.
Helen Sherriff is an award winning artist who graduated with Honours in Visual Art. Her techniques and traditions include painting, woodcarving, textiles, mosaics and iconography. ‘I often use old, even broken things, repurposed and redirected, as lives can be. The original brokenness works alongside the newness, adding strength.’ Helen’s exhibition is at Unley Civic Library.
