Embrace Kids premiere screening in Unley
Next date: Thursday, 30 March 2023 | 05:30 PM
Founder of 'The Body Image Movement', Australian of the Year writer-director Taryn Brumfitt encourages young people to 'embrace themselves' in her documentary, in which children talk about issues they are facing today, with pressures from media, social media, and bullying impacting their lives.
Taryn's film includes sports personalities, actors, comedians and influencers commenting on themes of body shaming, judgements based on physical appearance, race and ethnicity, and feelings of unhappiness in young people.
Through the interviews, young viewers begin to understand the effects the media have in driving these issues, and to recognise stereotyping, unhealthy habits, and discover that they have the power to make choices.
This is a moving film that all children and their families should see. It teaches that everyone has the option to choose love and gratitude, to love themselves and their bodies, and that they have a voice and the ability to influence their environment by learning to simply accept, love and be themselves.
Doors open at 5.30pm and the film starts at 6.30pm.
There will be entertainment and music, craft stations and free resources and movie snacks.
Aimed at 8 -14 years, but younger kids, older teens and family members all welcome.
This special premiere event is proudly brought to you in collaboration with the SA Government as part of Unley's Youth Week celebrations.
