Final category winners in Unley's 'All Connections' Art Prize

Published on 05 July 2021

The City of Unley’s Elected Members have voted, the public has spoken, and results are in.

The winner of the All (150) Connections to Unley Elected Members Award goes to Elaine Magias for her woven work Inparrinthi (meeting). The winner of this award is selected by the Mayor and councillors of Unley, and was chosen from among the twenty finalists this year.

The Elected Members award is part of the biennial All Connections’ Art Prize, which was first offered in 2016. This year, the theme explored not only participants’ connections to Unley, but also considered our city’s sesquicentennial celebrations in our 150th year.

Elaine Magias now sits beside 2021’s major prize winner Charmaine Osborne for her work 150 seed pots for Unley green plots.

Along with the major prize of $5000 and the Elected Members prize $500 awarded to these two artists, visitors to the finalists’ exhibition at the Hughes Gallery were also invited to vote for the artwork they liked the most in the third and final category, the People’s Choice award.

Congratulations go to Miguel Duque Cruz for his stunning piece Find me in the clouds, a clear favourite with visitors to the exhibition.

The artworks which won in various categories shows the diversity of art submitted across a range of media, with ceramics, textiles and painting represented by artists who entered the competition this year.

These current award winners join past recipients as category leaders in the ‘All (150) Connections to Unley’ Art Prize.

The City of Unley wishes to congratulate Elaine Magias, Miguel Cruz and the other competition finalists, and to offer our thanks to all the artists who entered for their contribution to the artistic and cultural life of Unley.
