Citizen of the Year Awards

We want you to nominate someone who makes a real difference in your community and give them the opportunity to be rewarded and recognised for their important contribution. 

The Awards recognise individuals and organisations that have made a noteworthy contribution during the current year or have given service to a local community over a number of years. Outstanding community service contribution includes areas such as education, health, charitable fundraising and voluntary services, business, sport, arts, the environment or any other area that contributes to the advancement and well-being of a community.

Categories

Citizen of the Year Award

To be eligible, the nominated person must be an Australian Citizen.

Young Citizen of the Year Award

To be eligible, the person must be an Australian Citizen aged over 16 years and under 30 years of age on January 26, 2020.

Community Event of the Year Award

This is presented to the person or group who has staged the most outstanding community event during the past year.

 Award for Active Citizenship

A person or group delivering outstanding work for for an event or cause, which has been held in the community during the past year.

Procedure

Each Council in South Australia Council seeks nominations in their local area, with the award recipients usually announced at the Council’s Australia Day celebrations. Councils forward the details of their award recipients to the Australia Day Council of South Australia to go in the running for the 2021 State Awards, presented by the Governor of South Australia.
