Latest swimming news

The Swim Centre team aims to provide consistent quality, warm and clean water, friendly service and comfortable facilities.

The current pandemic will require Centre operations to have balanced controls for your safety. These measures ensure the facility operates as efficiently as possible while meeting legislative requirements and setting a socially responsible example for our community. Our operating procedures will remain very similar to how things ended last season.

Operational news

You will note some minor changes to our operations that aim to enhance your customer experience when visiting. Below is an operations summary and the conditions we will implement upon re-opening, noting these are based on current advice and are subject to change as required:

  • Memberships, season passes and multi-visits will be available for purchase. These are accompanied by set terms and conditions to read and understand before purchase, particularly regarding government-imposed closures.
  • Payments for entry, programs and memberships will still be made at the Centre and not online. Cashless payment is strongly encouraged.
  • As per State Government requirements, masks will be mandatory while visiting the Centre in all indoor locations. Staff will wear masks while interacting with customers.
  • All patrons must pre-book their visit to the Centre, with some more flexible conditions put in place around time limits for lap swimmers and program participants from last season. Please see the booking section below for more details.
  • Aquarobics classes will resume from Saturday 18 September. These classes will be available by booking online.
  • Swimming lessons will proceed in line with capacity limits. Programs will be physically spread out across a larger area within the facility to facilitate social distancing. We will communicate any other changes to swimming lessons programs closer to this program’s start on Monday 11 October.
  • We have a COVID-Safe Plan in place, which stipulates our obligations and requirements, including cleaning protocols and contact tracing in the event of community transmissions or virus clusters.
  • The café food and beverage service will be in place as usual, however, keep cups cannot be used.

Bookings

The Swimming Centre booking system ensures a safe and steady flow of people visiting the facility and allows our team to form closer relationships with our customers and put faces to names.

All patrons must pre-book their visit to the Centre, with some more flexible conditions put in place around time limits for lap swimmers and program participants from last season. Essentially, provided capacity allows, you will be able to extend your stay at the Centre to a maximum of two hours. Recreation sessions will remain capped at two hours.

Bookings will be taken by category (e.g. lap swimming, recreation, gentle exercise and programs classes), with capacity limits in place. Please note that our staff will assist patrons who need support with booking online.

Bookings will open two days before the Centre re-opening (Thursday 16 September). Only the advance five days will be available for booking at any given time.

The Centre has invested in an automated people counting system. This exciting technology allows us to place a capacity on Centre operations and view Centre patronage in real-time. This means that as restrictions ease, this system will become the primary control for maintaining density requirements at the facility and hopefully will replace the need for patrons to book online.

Junior pool design and upgrade

An exciting project going ahead this season will be planning for capital replacement of the facility’s junior pools. These pools were built in 1964 and received a cosmetic upgrade (new tiles and joints) in 2003-04 but are now due for replacement. This project will see the development of a concept design and detailed construction plan to replace the pools.

The project’s approach will consider our community’s needs by investigating two options:

  • a like-for-like replacement of the current pools and
  • re-designing this area with some targeted improvements for programs and recreation.

This design process will also ensure the City of Unley is best placed to receive any potential external grant funding that may become available in future years for the construction phase of this project.
