Active Unley is Council’s health and wellbeing initiative aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles while providing opportunities for the community to get outdoors and participate in physical activity.

In partnership with local businesses and community groups, we are pleased to offer a range of Unley Active activities for you to try. View the list of free or low-cost activities below and register your interest today!
  • Ballet at the Barre | 10-week program commencing Saturday 5 May
    Adult Ballet classes at the Goodwood Institute Theatre

     
    When: 10-week program commencing Saturday 5 May. Classes start at 1.30pm.

    Where: The Goodwood Institute Theatre, 166 Goodwood Road, Goodwood

    Activity details:  This program offers participants a taste of adult ballet. Classical dance is creative exercise engaging artistry and grace whilst enhancing health and wellbeing. Ballet at the Barre offers adult ballet classes whether you are revisiting the joy of dance or it is your first experience. It is never too late to take the first plié with Rebecca Mason.
     
    Cost: $25 Casual, $200 10-week Dance Card (Special: receive 10 classes, pay for 9 classes).

  • Women's Health Club | Thursday 31 May
    Women's Health Club - Satori Women's Health Club

    When: Thursday 31 May, 6 - 730pm

    Where: Satori Women's Health Club, 80a Unley Road, Unley

    Activity details: Come along to hear guest speakers Dr Sally (GP) and Louise Fowler (Balance Physio) and also participate in a 30 minute workout.  The session will cater for all ages and fitness levels. Please wear comfortable active wear and bring a water bottle and towel.  This class is for women only and participants will need to complete a medical form upon arrival.

    Cost: $15 per person.

  • Women’s Fitness Sessions | 23 June
    Women’s Fitness Sessions
    at Satori Women’s Health Club, Unley

     
    When: Saturday 23 June, 12noon -  12.45pm.

    Where: Satori Women's Health Club, 80a Unley Road, Unley

    Activity details: Enjoy a gentle exercise program led by a qualified personal trainer, tailored to meet your needs, including stretching, cardio and weight exercises.
     
    Each session will incorporate different styles of exercise and will cater for all fitness levels and abilities. 
     
    Sessions are limited to 15 people and are suitable for people over 50 years of age.
     
    Please wear comfortable active wear and bring a water bottle and towel.
     
    This class is for women only and participants will need to complete a medical form upon arrival.

    Cost: Free

  • Meditation Classes | Wednesdays
    Meditation Classes


    When:  Every Wednesday, 7.30 - 9pm

    Where:  Fullarton Park Community Centre, 411 Fullarton Road

    Activity details: In each class a different aspect of meditation and Buddhism is explained. No meditation experience is necessary, the classes are suitable for beginners and experienced meditators.

    Classes are taught by the Buddhist nun Kelsang Luma from Maitreya Kadampa Buddhist Centre, Adelaide.

    Classes begin with a simple guided breathing meditation followed by a teaching and a second guided meditation based on the topic.

    There is also an opportunity for discussion, followed by refreshments.

    Cost: $14 per person, per session

    To register: The classes are self-contained so you can drop in any week. No need to book or bring anything with you.

  • Tummy Time Pilates | Wednesdays during School Term
    Tummy Time Pilates at Goodwood Community Centre
     
    When: Every Wednesday during school terms. 9:30am General/Pregnancy, 10.30am Mums and Bubs. Classes run for 45 minutes. 

    Where: Goodwood Community Centre, 32/34 Rosa St, Goodwood

    Activity details: All welcome. Recommended for Mums, Bubs and Bumps! Our new General class is open to all ages and abilities and suitable for pregnant clients. No class limit currently but usual size is 6-10 participants. 

    Cost: $15/casual class or $80/6 classes with free Pilates band included

    Boutique Fitness Sessions at the Roxy Centre

    When:  Ongoing. Session dates and times available online

    Activity details: Various activities on offer for mums and dads, teens and tweens, including zumba, barre, yoga, pilates and more!

  • Dance to Stay Young Program | Mondays
    Dance to Stay Young Program at Goodwood Community Centre

    When:  Every Monday, 1.30-2.30pm

    Where:  Banquet Hall, Goodwood Community Centre, Rosa St, Goodwood

    Activity details: You don’t stop dancing because you grow old, you grow old because you stop dancing!  Dancing is a great way to keep active and socialise with others. This program is suitable for individuals and groups. Participants are encouraged to bring their own music for a freestyle dance segment.

    Cost: $7 per person, per session

  • No Lights No Lycra, Goodwood | Thursdays
    No Lights No Lycra, Goodwood

    When: Thursdays, 7.15pm for 7.30pm start (60 mins)

    Where: Goodwood Community Centre, Rosa Street, Goodwood

    Activity details: No Lights No Lycra is a weekly lights-off chance to dance in the dark for the pure joy of dancing. It’s a place to shake out the stresses of the week, let go of your inhibitions and completely be yourself. We're part of a global community providing an inclusive and non-judgmental space to move.  Car parking and toilets available.  All ages and fitness levels welcome and lycra is totally ok!  

    Cost: $7 per session

  • Unley Walking Group | Wednesdays
    Unley Walking Group – hosted by Unley Physiotherapy


    When: every Wednesday, 9.30 – 10.30am

    Where: Walks depart from Unley Physiotherapy, 160 Unley Road, Unley

    Activity details:  The walking group aims to provide exercise in a group environment to benefit from group motivation and socialisation. Everyone is welcome, regardless of your ability or fitness level.

    Cost: Free

  • Outdoor Group Fitness Session for Parents | Tuesdays
    Outdoor Group Fitness Session for Parents (kids welcome!)


    When: Tuesdays, 9.15-10am
     
    Where: Unley Oval (meet at the shelter, off Langham Terrace) 
     
    Activity details: Outdoor group fitness session with Sarah Kuss of Fitness Boutique by Sarah (located on Unley Road). Pre-schoolers are welcome.  Bring a mat and drink bottle, snacks and hats for the kids. Profits raised go to Unley Primary School to improve outdoor play spaces. These sessions will go for 9 weeks until the last Tuesday of Term 4.
     
    Cost: $10 payable on the day

Need some inspiration? Here’s a list of 21 things to do in the City of Unley.

 


See what’s growing in the edible orchards at Morrie Harrell Reserve, Ramage Street, Unley, and Fullarton Park, Fisher Street, Fullarton. 


Slide, roll and play on lots of fun equipment at the Katherine Street playground, Fullarton. Rocks, logs, sensory planting, and a sandpit provide an area where the kids can interact with nature.

 
Ride the mini trains at SASMEE Park, Millswood Crescent, Millswood, operating on the 1st Saturday and 3rd Sunday of every month.


Let’s go fly a kite! The open space areas at Ridge Park or Orphanage Park are perfect locations.


Pick up some fresh produce from the Adelaide Showgrounds Farmers Market, held every Sunday on Leader Street, Goodwood.


Enjoy the change of seasons by sitting on a bench at Heywood Park and watching the world go by. Can you hear the kookaburras?


Ride the Mike Turtur Bikeway from the Black Forest to the Wayville Showgrounds.


Packed full of play equipment, the Princess Margaret Playground at Black Forest is a hidden gem. The kids will love it, trust us!


Unley Road offers 1.5km’s of shopping activity. Why not start at one end in the morning, have lunch and then wander back down the other side in the afternoon.


Check out our new Book Nooks! They are little boxes full of books for you to borrow, read, replace and enjoy. There are 4 nooks located around the Council area: Leicester Street Playground, Parkside; Fern Avenue Reserve, Fullarton; Heywood Park, Unley Park and at Clarence Park Community Centre.
 


We now have two outdoor ping pong tables! Check them out at the Unley Civic Centre, Oxford Terrace, Unley, and Fullarton Park Community Centre, Fullarton Road, Fullarton.


Walk the Discover Historic Unley trail and pop in at the Unley Museum, 80 Edmund Avenue, Unley, to discover more about your neighbourhood.


See what you can find at Ridge Park, Myrtle Bank. Do you know how much water the dam can hold? Can you find the 250 year old ‘Eucalyptus microcarpa’ tree, or the giant lizards at the playground? 


Head to the Unley Oval to see the local Sturt Football Club play. Practise your own footy skills on the oval after the game.
 


Man’s best friend needs some exercise too! Take your dog to one of our great parks. More details regarding off-leash times can be found on our Dog Exercise Area page.  


Search for a good book at Unley Library and enjoy it at the Village Green, Rugby Street, Unley.


The City of Unley has so many places for kids to explore. Orphanage Park is one great example, where you can build a cubby house, catch tadpoles and make some mud pies!


Try out one of the many activities, workshops and programs held across our diverse Community Centres.


Walk Windsor Street trail from Fern Avenue Reserve to Unley Road and observe the native plants along the way.


Climb the stairs of grandstand at Goodwood Oval and enjoy the view.


Open the lid to discover what’s inside the ‘Toy Boxes’, at Ridge Park, Village Green, Soutar Park and Forestville Reserve.

  • Council are partnering with businesses and community groups to assist you to host a free or low cost activity for City of Unley residents
  • Over 60 businesses and community groups have been partnered with so far, offering over 200 different activities since 2015
  • Council can provide a limited amount of funding and promotional support to enable you to host an activity (or activities) and promote your organisation
