The City of Unley coordinates the Daily Moves Program for the councils within the Eastern Adelaide region.
As we get older, health issues and life’s commitments can get in the way of us feeling our best. We might stop doing the things we love, or lose confidence doing things we used to take for granted, like walking to the shops or hanging out the washing. Fortunately, these skills can be regained or maintained by slowly introducing more movement into our days.
Daily Moves is a free supportive physical activity program for adults aged 65 years and above. The program aims to encourage participants to move their bodies daily for 30 minutes. Daily movement, including things like taking out the bins, can go a long way to maintaining independence, preventing frailty, managing chronic pain, keeping us socially connected, lifting our mood, along with many other benefits.
The program provides support to adults who are mostly inactive, with priority given to people who are mobility impaired, managing chronic pain, socially isolated, caring for someone, living with dementia or have other specific needs.
Daily Moves is available for residents in the following council areas:
This program is funded by the Move it Aus – Better Ageing Grant, provided by the Australian Government, with support from Sport Australia.
On entry to the program, each participant will undertake a free physical assessment and goal setting session, which will be used to create an individualised Daily Moves Plan. This plan will provide some suggested activities for participants based on their interests. An individualised Daily Moves Plan might include things like:
If they choose to, participants will also receive regular support, encouragement, mentoring and follow up assessments along the way. Or participants may wish to work at their own pace and provide feedback to the Daily Moves Team when they feel they have accomplished their goal.
As additional support participants will also receive invitations to attend educational seminars, workshops and demonstrations.
One on one support and modified activities will be provided to identified participants on an as needs basis.

We are searching for Daily Moves Partners—health and fitness businesses, community groups and sporting clubs—that provide age friendly exercise opportunities and are keen to help us encourage older adults to move more.
As part of your involvement, you will be invited to free professional development courses, have the opportunity to submit articles, special offers or similar into our Daily Moves newsletter; and feature as a recommended provider in a participant’s Daily Moves Plan, according to their location, goals and exercise preferences.

As part of the Daily Moves program, monthly information sessions will be scheduled and cover a range of health and wellbeing topics. These sessions will provide you with information and tools to help you achieve your goals.
