Setting the Stage for Twilight Tunes

Last April – almost a year in advance – our City of Unley Events and Activations Coordinator, Mike Smith, had already begun planning for Twilight Tunes 2026.

If you were lucky enough to experience the event series last year, you’ll remember Soutar Park coming alive with live music, refreshing drinks, and delicious eats that brought our community together under golden summer sunsets. In 2026, the team is working hard to make it even better. “This year’s event will have a different look and feel and will turn its focus to the heart of its location- Goodwood,” says Mike.

Planning it Out

Organising Twilight Tunes is a complex process with countless moving parts. “There are always a thousand details and challenges that happen in the lead up to, and during an event,” Mike reflects. “But that’s what makes it exciting as an event coordinator- when the curtain opens everything is perfect for the audience. What happens behind the scenes is a mystery.”

One unexpected behind-the-scenes challenge this year? The heat. With higher-than-average temperatures, keeping the grass green and lush in Soutar Park has been a priority. Council’s outdoor team has put in extra effort into maintaining the grounds so that it’s ready to welcome an influx of picnic blankets, deck chairs and dancing feet.

It Takes a Village

What sets Twilight Tunes apart is its instilled connection to the local community. From the food vendors and bar to the market stalls, this event champions businesses that call Goodwood home. It’s a celebration of the area, made possible by the people who bring it to life. Mike says it best: “a combination of City of Unley staff and volunteers come together to make this event possible, and it’s our amazing audience that brings the vibe, cleans up after themselves, and helps to make this event a safe and inclusive experience for all. This is what makes for a great and successful event.”
