The new machines improve convenience and payment options for users, reduce street clutter, and align with the same technology already in use across neighbouring City of Adelaide.

Along with the parking machine upgrade, we have also integrated with the City of Adelaide’s UPark web app to enable secure, web-based payments, accessible via a QR code found on the machine or nearby parking sign. This provides more flexible payment options to users, without needing to use the parking ticket machines.
The new parking ticket machines are part of Council’s commitment to improving public infrastructure, and, are a key action of the Unley Parking Management Plan 2023–2033(PDF, 6MB).

Pay by Plate parking ticket machines are at the following locations:
- Bartley Crescent, Wayville – 4 smart parking ticket machines.
- Cooke Terrace, Wayville – 1 smart parking ticket machine.
- Rose Terrace, Wayville – 1 smart parking ticket machine.
- Railway Terrace South, Goodwood – 1 smart parking ticket machine.
You can choose how to pay for your parking by using a Pay by Plate parking ticket machine, or by scanning a QR code with your smartphone and paying via the UPark web app.
Both options are easy, and there's no need to return to your vehicle to display a physical ticket on your dashboard. Just remember your vehicle’s registration number as you’ll need this when making your payment.

Why did the City of Unley introduce Pay by Plate parking ticket machines?
The City of Unley upgraded its parking ticket machines to modern Pay by Plate parking ticket machines. This upgrade aligns with the technology currently used in the neighbouring City of Adelaide, providing a more consistent, easier experience with enhanced functionality for users.
Our previous machines required credit card reader upgrades to remain operational. Rather than retrofitting the already ageing machines, transitioning to Pay by Plate parking ticket machines was a more cost-effective and future-proof solution.
How many machines will be replaced and where are the new locations?
Previously, there were nine parking ticket machines across our City. These have been replaced with seven Pay by Plate parking ticket machines at the following locations:
- Bartley Crescent, Wayville – 4 Pay by Plate parking ticket machines (replaced 5 pay-for-use ticket machines)
- Cooke Terrace, Wayville – 1 Pay by Plate parking ticket machines (replaced 1 pay-for-use ticket machine)
- Rose Terrace, Wayville – 1 Pay by Plate parking ticket machines (replaced 1 pay-for-use ticket machine)

Why are there fewer parking ticket machines?
Fewer machines have been installed as there are now more flexible ways for users to pay for parking. The UPark web app enables users to pay for parking using their smartphone to scan a QR Code displayed. Users are not required to use the parking machine if they prefer a ‘touch-free’ way of parking.
Although the number of ticket machines have been reduced from nine to seven, they are still accessible for those who prefer this method of payment.
Fewer machines on our streets means reduced street clutter and improved footpath aesthetics.

The UPark web app is a smartphone platform used across the City of Adelaide, and adopted by the City of Unley, as a convenient way to pay for parking.

Can I save the UPark web app to my smartphone for next time?
Yes, you can save the UPark web app by entering app.customer.upark.com.au into your smartphone’s internet browser and following the instructions to save it to your phone.
The UPark web app is a progressive web app (PWA). A PWA or ‘web app' is a website that you can install directly on your device, making it behave like a traditional app.
Once downloaded, it appears on your home screen just like an app, and when you open it, it runs in a way that will feel like a regular app - offering fast, easy access and a smooth user experience. It's like having a website experience, in an app environment, without having to visit the app store or download updates.

How can I pay for parking?
You can choose to pay for your parking by either using a Pay by Plate parking ticket machine, or, by scanning a QR code on your smartphone and paying via the UPark web app.

Do I need to create an account or sign up?
No, you do not need to create an account or sign up. You can simply pay for parking as a guest.
There is an option to create an account if you wish to save your details and make future parking even easier.
Can I get a receipt?
Once you have completed your parking transaction at the machine, you will be asked if you want an e-receipt. If you select 'Yes’ there will be a couple of options:
- scan the QR code displayed on the machine to load the receipt directly to your device, or
- note down the receipt code and go to ‘www.my-receipt.com’ to retrieve your receipt.
When paying using the QR Code and UPark web app, you will have the option to have an e-receipt emailed to you.
At the end of your transaction you will have an option to set up your email and create an account. If you create an account, you will receive e-receipt emails for future transactions.
Can I check how much time I have left?
Yes, if you return to the parking machine and enter your vehicle registration plate number, you can check the remaining time on your ticket.
What if the parking ticket machine is unavailable or offline?
We anticipate minimal interruptions as the Pay by Plate parking ticket machines are solar and battery powered, plus if a telecommunication provider is unavailable, they will automatically switch to one that is available.
However, if there is an issue, instructions for users will be provided on screen. If the screen is not working, you can pay for your parking by scanning the QR Code displayed on the machine or nearby parking sign.

How can I be confident my data remains safe?
All payments are completed with fully certified PCIDSS terminals and software solutions.
In addition, personal data does not need to be entered to park, however, it can be supplied if you wish to be emailed your receipt. This data is encrypted immediately and is not accessible, even by Council.
Do I need to display a ticket on my car?
No, tickets are ‘paperless’, so you do not need to display a ticket on your car.
Simply pay for your parking and you’re good to go!
Will I risk receiving an expiation because I don’t have a ticket displayed in my vehicle?
No, our Parking Officers can see the details of all electronic tickets on our system. They will match your vehicle’s plate number to your electronic ticket.
What happens if I received a parking fine?
If you have received a parking fine (also known as a parking expiation notice), you can view the details online and choose what action to take to resolve your fine. For more information or to submit a request, visit the Parking fine disputes page on our website.
