The Living Young Reference Group delivered their first pilot project for young people – the Living Green Youth Challenge – in April 2021.
The school holiday project included a series of free workshops for young people aged 12 – 25 years, focussing on gardening, recycled art, sustainable fashion, beeswax wraps, cooking/ pickling and other skill builders for young people to learn new good habits for sustainability.
Most of the workshops were booked out and the young people in attendance learnt valuable skills.
The Living Green Youth Challenge started as an idea from the Reference Group and became a reality with the dedication of our youth volunteers. A sub-group of volunteers was formed where the young people planned the workshops, participated in event styling training, selected event styling pieces, set-up each workshop space, assisted at the registration desk and even handmade specialty name tags for each participant to wear and take home.
| Workshop topics included:
- learning to grow vegetables in pots
- learning how to make beeswax wraps
- discovering the art of pickling
- creating recycled collage art and
- remaking clothing into sustainable fashion.
