Celebrate SA Youth Week 2026 by showcasing your creativity in the Unley Youth Art Showcase. Young artists aged 12–25 are invited to submit 2D artworks—painting, drawing, photography, or visual design—for display at the Hughes Gallery, Fullarton Park Community Centre.

Terms and Conditions

Eligibility

· Entrants must live, study, work, or play in the City of Unley.

· Age: 12–25 years at time of entry.

· Entrants under 18 require parent/guardian consent and must agree to the terms and conditions on behalf of the applicant.

· Employees and Elected Members of the City of Unley, and their immediate families and agencies associated with the promotion are not eligible.

 

Entry Details

· Free entry via online form.

· Entries open: Wednesday 21 January 2026

· Entries close: Sunday 22 March 2026 (midnight)

· Late entries will not be accepted.

· Each entrant may submit one original artwork, created within 12 months of the exhibition start date.

 

Artwork Requirements

· Only 2D artworks accepted: painting, drawing, photography, visual design, digital art, original prints such as (linocuts, woodcuts, screenprints, etchings).

· No 3D works or reproductions of original artworks.

· Maximum size: 1m x 1m per side.

· There is no theme requirement for the artwork.

· Multi-panel pieces are accepted as one work and no side may exceed 1mx1m in total – ie when installed no one side must exceed 1m. If dimensions are incorrectly provided at time of entry and exceed these limits, the work will be returned to the artist and removed from the finalist shortlist.

· Must be ready for installation (framed or on canvas with string or d-hooks attached at the back). With artist name, artwork title and mobile phone number on the back of the artwork.

· Supply a digital image of your artwork. Your image must be 300dpi and no larger than 10MB. Remember the judging panel will be selecting finalists based on the image you upload, so please ensure the image shows your artwork as clearly as possible. Judging

· All works submitted will be subject to a pre-selection process by the judging panel based upon the digital images submitted. Finalists will be notified if they have been shortlisted for the exhibition via email on 26 March 2026. All notification and correspondence will be via email.

· The judging panel will select the category prize winners from those works selected as finalists and exhibited in the exhibition at the Hughes Gallery. The winners will be announced at the exhibition launch event on Thursday 9 April 2026, 6pm – 7:30pm at the Hughes Gallery.

· Judges’ decision is final; no feedback for non-selected works.

· The Judging panel will be:

o Exhibition Curator

o A representative from the Living Young Reference Group

o Carclew, Manager Creative Learning

 

Exhibition

· Exhibition: 9 April – 3 May 2026 at Hughes Gallery, Fullarton Park Community Centre.

· Delivery of artworks to Hughes Gallery: Tuesday 7 April 2026 (10am–12pm or 3pm–6pm).

· Collection of artworks from Hughes Gallery: Monday 4 May 2026 (3pm–6pm).

· If the above dates and times are not suitable, please contact the project coordinator at ldebono@unley.sa.gov.au to discuss alternative arrangements.

 

Prizes

· 12–17 years:

1st Prize: $400 cash + A 1 hour consultation with Alise Hardy, Manager Creative Learning at Carclew to discuss your artistic practice and goals for a mentorship + 2 x2 hour mentoring package with a professional artist of the winning artists practice and goals.

2nd Prize: $100 art materials voucher for Duthy Street Art Supplies.

 

· 18–25 years:

1st Prize: $400 cash + A 1 hour consultation with Alise Hardy, Manager Creative Learning at Carclew to discuss your artistic practice and goals for a mentorship + 2 x2 hour mentoring package with a professional artist of the winning artists practice and goals.

2nd Prize: $100 art materials voucher for Duthy Street Art Supplies.

 

· All finalists receive a participation certificate and a Living Young prize pack.

 

Important Notes

· City of Unley may reproduce artworks for publicity without fee.

· Artists are responsible for all costs associated with framing, preparing the artwork for exhibition and transport to and from the exhibition venue.

· Artists are responsible for the safety of artworks during transport and delivery to the venue. Upon receipt the artworks will be inspected for damage prior to being accepted. Damaged works will not be accepted and will not be included in the finalist exhibition.

· While the City of Unley will take all precautions to ensure artworks are handled, stored and exhibited safely, City of Unley does not insure artworks whilst on exhibition or take responsibility for damages, theft or loss while the works are in its custody. Artists are encouraged to insure artworks included in the exhibition at their own cost.

· Artworks cannot not be stored by the organisers at the conclusion of the exhibition and must be collected from the Hughes Gallery, Fullarton Park Community Centre on 4 May 2026 between 3pm – 6pm.

· If the organisers deem that there are not enough entries by 23 March 2026, the exhibition/competition may be cancelled and all applicants advised.
