Karen Young - The Relationship Advantage
Next date: Thursday, 22 October 2026 | 06:30 PM
to 08:00 PM
Relationships are the foundation of learning, emotional regulation, behaviour, resilience and wellbeing. They are the single greatest protective factor in a young person's life.
Join Karen Young for an inspiring and practical evening exploring the science of relationships and why connection shapes how young people learn, grow and thrive. Grounded in neuroscience and full of warmth, Karen will share practical strategies to strengthen relationships, respond to big emotions, and support young people with confidence at home and at school.
For the adults in the lives of young people - parents, carers, grandparents, educators, leaders, health care professionals.
Across the evening, Karen will explore:
- Why connection is the foundation of influence and how to build it (even through times when connection feels tricky).
- The four essential pillars for regulation, learning, behaviour and engagement - and how relationship is key to all of them.
- What young people need most from us and the small everyday moments that do more than you think.
- What gets in the way of connection and how to recognise it before it erodes.
- The strategies that build relationship, using the resources available to you.
- How to respond to big feelings in ways that build connection and influence, rather than distance.
- How to hold firm, loving boundaries without losing the relationship.
- Why ‘perfect' relationships aren’t the answer, and what is.
