The Unley Museum and Gallery project has taken an exciting step toward creating a modern, engaging cultural space for our community, and we are delighted to see the project taking shape.

Works associated with the project officially opened on 12th December 2025, with the breaking-ground (Sod Turning) ceremony. The event was attended by representatives from State and Local Government, community members, Council representatives, contractors and consultants.

G-Force Building & Consulting has been engaged by the City of Unley to deliver the construction works. G-Force is a reputable and highly regarded contractor within the building industry, with strong experience in managing heritage works for local government. We look forward to working closely with them on the project to achieve a great outcome for our community.

A key milestone achieved is the full relocation of the Museum to its temporary home at 39 Oxford Terrace, Unley, where it will operate for the duration of the project. The Edmund Avenue site has been cleared and demolition completed. A site compound has been established in the Unley Village Green to manage deliveries, storage, concrete works and crane activities. Care has been taken to minimise the compound footprint on the Village Green, as this will remain in place until the project is completed.

The building form is now taking shape, with the external concrete slabs poured, and the footprint of the new building now visible. Inside, rooms are being re-modelled to suit the new floor plan, internal doorways are being closed in, and new steelwork is being installed to open up internal spaces.

Externally, the heritage elements of the façade are being carefully rejuvenated. Works include chemical stripping of historical paint layers, re-pointing stonework and repairing timber roof framing and windows. Our first major concrete pour occurred on 13th March, with the second scheduled for 16th March 2026.

With the concrete pours completed, structural steel installation will take place over the next two months, followed by roof and wall cladding, window installation and the internal fit-out.

We are also privileged to incorporate an original Indigenous Artwork within the façade cladding. This significant cultural feature will be revealed over the coming months.

This stage of the build is exciting as the new Unley Museum and Gallery begins to take shape. We look forward to keeping you updated as works progress.
