Discover how composers across centuries have drawn inspiration from the past in this captivating program for viola and piano.
Benjamin Britten’s exhilarating Lachrymae takes its inspiration from the music of Renaissance composer John Dowland, while Dmitri Shostakovich’s powerful final work, the Viola Sonata Op. 147, contains poignant echoes of Beethoven’s famous Moonlight Sonata. The program also features Caroline Shaw’s In manus tuas, inspired by Thomas Tallis, and Rebecca Clarke’s hauntingly beautiful Morpheus.
