Summer is the season of sunshine, and festivities... but it can also bring with it dangerous weather in the form of severe heatwaves. Use our tips and resources below to keep cool, get ready, and stay safe when hot weather hits.

Be Prepared Beforehand:

  • Find your nearest Cool Space. This summer, our Libraries (Unley and Goodwood) and Community Centres (Fullarton Park and Unley) will provide Cool Spaces during severe or extreme heatwaves. Everyone is welcome during our facilities' existing opening hours, but we recommend that you avoid travelling to and from during the hottest parts of the day.
  • Prep your home by making sure that your air conditioner is serviced, your fans are working, and that you have proper insulation installed.
  • Check-in on vulnerable people by making sure that your family members and neighbors have a plan in place for the warm weather.

Be Safe During:

  • During heatwaves, close your curtains and blinds in your home.
  • Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing.
  • Stay hydrated and avoid going out into the heat.

Heatwaves are dangerous, should be taken seriously, and can be hazardous to vulnerable people. Full details on location and opening hours of our facilities operating as cool spaces, and further resources and tips to beat the heat and keep cool this summer can be found on our website.
