Simpson Parade to Mike Turtur Bikeway
We are proposing streetscape improvements along King William Road, between Simpson Parade and the Mike Turtur Bikeway, as part of our ongoing asset renewal program.
The project builds on the success of the recently completed Stages 1 and 2 upgrades, which extended from the Mike Turtur Bikeway bend to Greenhill Road.
The existing road and footpaths are due for renewal, providing an opportunity to improve the streetscape and create safer, more accessible connections for people walking, wheeling and cycling.
The proposed upgrade will strengthen connections to the Wood-Weller Bikeway and improve the overall experience for everyone using King William Road.
What is proposed?
Key features of the proposed upgrade include:
- A separated bikeway: A 2.6-metre-wide, two-way bikeway along the western side of King William Road, improving safety and connectivity for cyclists.
- Parking on both sides: On-street parking will be retained on both sides of King William Road, with an estimated reduction of 12 spaces (eight on King William Road and four on Young Street).
- More trees and landscaping: Removal of six existing non-regulated trees, with opportunities to plant ten or more new trees and introduce up to 250 m² of additional low-level landscaping.
- Safer pedestrian crossings: Improved pedestrian crossings, refuge islands, kerb ramps and connections.
- Improved bus stops: Retention and improvement of all bus stops.
- Property access maintained: Continued access to adjoining properties and driveways.
- Young Street intersection improvements: Significant improvements to make the intersection safer and more convenient for people walking, wheeling and cycling.
- Road and footpath renewal: Renewal of the road pavement, kerbs, footpaths and surrounding streetscape.
