Re-Focus, Re-Use, Re-Purpose

Avoid waste this summer by Re-Focusing on reducing household waste.

Celebrate the festival season sustainably, by putting compostable containers in the correct bin.

Most single-use plastic take-away food and drink packaging is now banned in SA; replaced with compostable alternatives. So next time you grab a take-away coffee, burger, or something from a festival food truck, it will probably come in plant-based packaging.

Look for the seedling logo (AS 4736) and/or the home compost logo (AS 5810), pop into a green organics bin or take home and use your kerbside green bin.

This simple action will help to keep materials out of landfill; instead creating compost right here in South Australia. 

An even more powerful action is to avoid single-use packaging. Remember to BYO coffee cup, water bottle or containers when heading out, or choose to stop, sit down and enjoy dining in.  

A quick reminder about what else can go into your kerbside green organics bin:

• All food waste. Mouldy bread? Slimy veggies? Leftovers or dairy that smells a bit too funky? Meat scraps and bones? Pop it all in your green organics bin.
• Garden goodies, like lawn clippings, garden pruning and leaf litter.
• Tissues, paper towels, shredded paper and small scraps of paper.
• Compostable coffee cups, takeaway packaging and food stained pizza boxes.
• Pet waste (in a compostable bag or wrapped in newspaper).
