Getting help at home
The City of Unley provides services to help with basic chores both inside and outside of the home.
Short-term help is available for those who have recently been discharged from hospital or have experienced a significant change in circumstance. In certain cases, ongoing support in the home can be arranged.
How to apply
The first step is to register with My Aged Care
Phone 1800 200 422 (Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm and Saturday 10am to 2pm)
When registering with My Aged Care you will be given a reference number.
A home assessment will most likely be required to see what level of support is needed.
Local residents can include the City of Unley in their referral as their preferred service provider
Accessing council services
Once a current referral has been received the client, family, or carer will be contacted discuss options available through the City of Unley.

Cleaning and tidying
Interior spring clean
Everyone loves doing a good clean once in a while. The Spring Clean service is designed for bigger jobs that we only do once in while, such as:
cleaning the tops of cupboards
light fittings and window sills
ceiling and exhaust fans
removal of cob webs
removing curtains for washing
wiping bathroom tiles and shower alcoves
Cleaning windows and sills is also a big job that can be difficult manage. The window cleaning service is specifically designed for interior and exterior windows and sills and may involve taking down window screens to get the job done.
Maintenance and repairs
These services aim to assist residents to maintain their independence, safety, accessibility and health and wellbeing within the home environment to ensure the home is maintained in a safe and habitable condition.
Minor home maintenance repairs and tasks available include:
Basic pruning and general gardening services such as slashing, sweeping and raking are offered to improve safety and accessibility in the garden. Height limitations apply to all pruning work and service does not include lawn mowing
These services aim to contribute to resident safety and minimise hazards such as obstructed access to pathways and washing lines, possible fire hazards and the reduction of overgrowth to improve security and alleviate attraction of pests.
Some work may require an assessment to determine suitability
Volunteer gardening program
Once off annual gardening service to assist with basic duties and garden beautification such as rose pruning, light trimming of shrubs and hedges, re-potting and mulching of garden beds. Assessment is required.
A client contribution fee applies to all In-Home Services, however, a fee waiver can be requested for those experiencing financial difficulties.
