Last tree in the city by Peter Carnavas

Last tree in the city

by Peter Carnavas

Edward's city is a place of concrete and cars, a world without colour. Every day, Edward takes himself to a part of the city that is not like the city at all - the last tree in the city. He is happy there, until one day, the tree is gone. Edward (and his duck) eventually figure out a unique way to make the city more beautiful than it ever was before.

We have a Create & Craft video for a craft about autumn leaves.

For this craft you will need:

  • 1 x template(PDF, 119KB)
  • 1 x plastic sleeve
  • Some lightweight papers in autumn colours. We have used a mix of tissue paper, crepe paper and cellophane
  • 1 x straw (ours is paper)
  • Sticky tape
  • Scissors
  • Pencils/textas if you would like to colour in the background

Directions:

  • Colour in the tree template (if you wish).
  • Slide the template into the plastic sleeve.
  • Cut up your lightweight paper into small pieces. This is a great activity to encourage your child to practice their scissor skills and a great way to use up scraps of old wrapping paper.
  • Place the small pieces inside the plastic sleeve so they cover the front of the template.
  • Seal the top by placing sticky tape along the top open edge of the plastic sleeve.
  • Cut a small hole in the bottom corner of the sleeve and slide the straw part of the way in.
  • Tape around the straw to ensure the air doesn’t come out.
